Passport Fees Set to Increase from 1 July 2026: What Every Student Planning to Study Abroad Should Know

Passport Fees Increased from 1 July 2026 – Apply Before the New Charges Take Effect

If you're planning to study abroad in 2026 or 2027, here's an important update you shouldn't ignore.

As per the latest amendment to the Indian Passport Rules, passport application fees are expected to be revised from 1 July 2026. This means students who delay their passport application or renewal may have to pay significantly higher charges.

At Haneeva Overseas Education, one of the first things we advise every student is to ensure that their passport is ready before they begin the admission process. Many students focus on universities, IELTS, or scholarships but postpone applying for a passport. Unfortunately, this often leads to unnecessary delays and now, potentially, higher costs.

Revised Passport Fees (Effective from 1 July 2026*)

Tatkal Passport Fees

• Adult Passport (36 Pages): ₹5,000
• Adult Passport (60 Pages): ₹6,000
• Minor Passport: ₹4,250

Please verify these charges through the official Passport Seva Portal before making any payment, as government notifications may be updated.

Why This Matters for Students Planning to Study Abroad

Your passport is the very first document required for almost every stage of the overseas admission process, including:

• University applications
• IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and Duolingo registrations
• Scholarship applications
• Education loan processing
• Student visa application
• Flight ticket bookings

Without a valid passport, your entire study abroad journey can be delayed.

Should You Apply Now?

If you don't already have a passport, or if your passport is due to expire within the next couple of years, applying sooner rather than later can help you:

• Avoid paying higher application fees
• Prevent delays during university admissions
• Complete your documentation well in advance
• Stay prepared for upcoming intakes

Remember, many universities begin accepting applications months before classes start. Having your passport ready gives you a significant advantage.
