Explore Karnataka’s minority overseas scholarship offering up to ₹30 lakh for eligible Master’s students. Check income limits, eligibility and how to apply.

Studying abroad may be part of your plan. Paying for it is often the bigger question.
If you belong to a notified minority community and are domiciled in Karnataka, there is a government scholarship worth checking before deciding how much education loan you need.
The National Overseas Scholarship for Minorities, administered by Karnataka’s Directorate of Minorities, offers eligible students financial assistance of up to ₹30 lakh over two years for a Master’s degree abroad.
Here’s what you need to know.
How much support can you receive?
The assistance depends on your annual family income.
| Annual family income | Maximum assistance over two years |
|---|---|
| Below ₹8 lakh | Up to ₹30 lakh |
| ₹8 lakh to ₹16 lakh | Up to ₹15 lakh |
These are maximum limits, not automatic payouts. Your sanctioned assistance depends on eligibility, the applicable government guidelines and approval.
Who can apply?
The scheme is intended for Karnataka-domiciled students from these minority communities:
Muslim, Christian, Jain, Buddhist, Sikh and Parsi.
Under the notification reviewed for this article, applicants must:
- Pursue a full-time Master’s or postgraduate degree abroad.
- Be no older than 40 years, subject to the notification’s age-assessment rules.
- Have annual family income not exceeding ₹16 lakh.
- Meet the prescribed university-ranking requirements.
- Have Aadhaar seeded and NPCI mapped to their bank account.
Undergraduate courses are not covered by the scheme described on the official page.
Always check the latest notification before applying, as eligibility conditions can change between application cycles.
Your university choice matters
The scheme page specifies admission to a university within the QS World University Rankings Top 500.
The notification also specifies a QS Top 100 subject-ranking requirement for postgraduate Medical and Law subjects. Applicants in these fields should check the detailed Government Order before finalising their institution.
This makes scholarship eligibility an important part of university shortlisting. A university may offer your preferred course, but that alone does not mean it meets the funding requirements.
Haneeva tip: Check the university, campus, course and applicable ranking before paying a non-refundable deposit.
How do you apply?
Start with the Directorate of Minorities’ official scholarship page.
When an application window is announced:
- Read the latest notification and Government Orders.
- Follow the official application link to Seva Sindhu.
- Complete the form and upload the required documents.
- Review your information carefully before submitting.
- Save your application acknowledgement.
- Follow any instructions for submitting an application copy and supporting documents to the Directorate.
The notification supplied for this article states that the hard-copy submission date will be communicated by email. Check the instructions for your application cycle rather than assuming online submission completes every requirement.
What should you prepare in advance?
Use the latest official checklist as your final reference. For planning, organise your:
- Karnataka domicile or residence evidence.
- Minority-community and family-income documents.
- Academic certificates and mark sheets.
- Passport and overseas admission documents.
- Course duration and fee details.
- Bank details and Aadhaar–NPCI mapping confirmation.
- Any prescribed affidavits, surety documents or Power of Attorney.
The department’s application page provides downloadable formats and a user manual. Use the versions linked to the current application notification.
Avoid these common mistakes
Using an old notification: The website includes documents from earlier years. Their deadlines and conditions may differ from the current scheme.
Assuming the maximum amount is guaranteed: Keep a realistic funding plan until you receive an official sanction.
Choosing a university before checking eligibility: Review scholarship requirements alongside academic fit and career goals.
Missing follow-up instructions: Monitor your registered email and retain copies of everything submitted.
Although its name includes “National Overseas Scholarship,” this is a Karnataka Government scheme for eligible minority students. Use the Karnataka Directorate’s application route.
